Description

1/19/90: Their days may be numbered but 9917 is still still rolling away, E9s still handle the "Dinkies" at LaVergne on the BN Racetrack.

I sorely miss the E units, but their dual prime movers were a headache to maintain. The fact that the Alco PA had only one prime mover and comparable power was one of their selling points. Unfortunately, the one Alco engine was less reliable than the two EMD engines... Anyway, the F40s were indeed much more reliable and cheaper to maintain as they had only one prime mover to look after.
