12/30/95: Chicago is eager to forget about its industrial/manufacturing past... Amerika today does not make anything but consumer debt and weaponry. However in 1905 the City of Chicago set up the Central Manufacturing District north of the Union StockYards...served by the Chicago River and Indiana (CR&I) RR (later Conrail/now NS)... During WWII these factories provided essentials to allied forces. In later years the Chicago Board of Ed. (Pershing Road, as it was called) had offices in these structures. The Speigel Catalog Store had warehouses here... This view shows the warehouse buildings A, B, and C...In the "Millenium" Housing bubble more important than making REAL things!
