8/10/96! The last daze of Cicero (Hump) Yard....GP38-2s and an SD9...Soon the rails be gone; much concrete be poured, and JB HUNT trailers would be parked unceremoniously in the bowl! So much for my first RF phase!
I sure wish, but they were doing much more run-throughs and Galesburg was the big yard. BRC was starting to do a majority of classification in Chicago. I remember reading the July '88 Trains and it seemed that Cicero's writing was on the wall. Now I don't see much on the Racetrack at all these days except Metra and Amtrak. Either trackwork or they are diverting onto the Chilli Sub that goes through Hodgkins. No passenger crap to get in the way.
For intermodal. Eola to the west is the main freight yard. Galesburg is the main classification yard and a lot of manifests run through to the BRC. I took a whole roll of film when they were taking out the tracks.
